Wedding Theme: You | Brainstorming Sessions

Emily&Simon managed to escape the sweep of vintage twee, & instead brought Art Deco glamour to their wedding. Emily loved rooting through her nan’s dressing up box as a child & swanning around like a 1920s movie star, so it seemed only right that she felt just as glamorous on her wedding day! But they couldn’t leave behind their love of punk fashion, so featured the occasional flash of alternative detail.

The Deco ‘starburst’ was something Emily&Simon particularly wanted to feature in their album design, so we asked Lucy, one of our illustrators, if she could design a black starburst border around each image, but it didn’t really come to life until we inverted the design so that the pages and the cover were black and the border cappuccino, which was a first for us, and the final result was STUNNING!

Emily was convinced that she was born without the ‘bride gene’ as she had not spent her entire childhood with a pillow case on her head, fantasising about the perfect dress! She went to several traditional bridal wear shops, but found herself rushing to exit feeling really rather squeamish!

Enter Joanne Fleming’s bespoke gorgeousness!

Anyone Else But You by The Moldy Peaches… their first dance performed for them, with love, by their friends. John Perry sang a sea shanty, which was actually a surprise for Simon! The atmosphere was AMAZING. Even we joined in!

Emily bought two pairs of shoes. The original ones were plain and safe and completely not her. The second pair provided the vivid pop of colour under her dress, that we loved so much, with an awesome Iron Fist twist!

Even if you don’t want to go all out punk for your wedding, shoes that shock your nan are definitely the way forward!

Do you have any childhood influences you could introduce?

Do have opposing styles/fashions/themes that you’d struggle to choose between? How could you blend them to create a unique ‘YOU’ theme?

Could you call upon musician friends?!

How would you like your alternative wedding album to look?
