A Special Kind of Picnic!

So it started out as a surprise for my birthday – actually the day after my birthday, which we’d spent watching the utterly incredible Prince at The Hop Farm Festival. It just couldn’t get any better! All I knew was that we were heading towards Tunbridge Wells, but Penny refused to let me in on the secret – she had even locked me out of the kitchen for the morning!! As we reached the outskirts of town, she said that we were heading for the place where we had our first snog – Bull’s Hollow near Rusthall! After parking nearby, Penny had a rummage in the boot and pulled out all kinds of picnicky treats! Mostly dessert things too…..mmmmm!
Once we’d laid out the gorgeous spread you see above, it was time to open the card, which had the most beautiful message inside. Then Penny directed me to the bottle of pink champagne she’d included in the picnic. Now anyone that knows me well can tell you that I’m rubbish at reading gift tags, and I always have to be reminded. Seriously, I’m terrible. I don’t know why, but this time there wasn’t any forgetting, and as I read it, I couldn’t believe that Penny was asking me to be her husband!! I know I’m not a teenage girl, but O-M-G!! The great thing is, I’d already begun planning for Penny’s birthday next month, when I was going to ask HER to merry ME!! Needless to say, I couldn’t say yes quick enough, and it was the most incredibly emotional and teary moment – beat that for a birthday present!
We’ve also made a resolution to get more photos of the two of us, so here are the first few from our new life together!

P.S. If you’re reading this and you happen to own some woodland around the Kent/Sussex border that you’d be happy to hire out for a wedding, please do let us know! (We’re planning a Humanist ceremony so no need for a licence). Thanks so much!
